Chelsea are planning to open talks over a new contract with 20-year-old Belgian sensation Charly Musonda.

Musonda’s current deal expires in 2019, but the club want to tie him up with a long-term contract that will see him remain at Stamford Bridge for years to come.

The 20-year-old joined the club’s academy five years ago and has just been promoted to the senior squad this season.

The winger made 24 appearances for Real Betis on loan in 2016 and that coupled with Chelsea missing out on certain targets saw him stay at the club.

Charly, made his first ever start for the Blues at Stamford Bridge against Nottingham Forest in the third round of the Carabao Cup and he made sure that it counted as he scored an excellent goal and impressed with his play throughout.

He is highly rated by a lot of big European clubs and clubs like Arsenal, Manchester United and Celtic have constantly circled around the Belgian in an attempt to lure him away from the Blues.

Chelsea held some initial discussions with him at the end of last season but it was agreed on both sides to postpone serious negotiations until a later date.

It is believed one of the reasons for the delay was that Musonda wanted to see how much he’d be involved under coach Antonio Conte this term.

Conte has already sent out a huge signal of intent by including him in Chelsea’s Premier League squad.

Significantly, Conte was so impressed with his showing against Nottingham that he was rewarded with a place on the Bench for the Premier League away clash against Stoke City.

Conte has told Musonda that he needs to put more muscle on to fulfil his potential, a message that the player has taken on board.

The player also said that Eden Hazard has given him a similar advice and he is now spending long hours at the gym.

Musonda said: “I know I definitely have to put more muscle on (like Eden did). It is a very physical League.

“English football is very tough. You can have the skill but you need to add the physical part to it. I am still young and will have to continue developing. I’m patient and I have time.”

Musonda agreed on a contract worth £12,000-a-week when he signed a four-year contract in 2015, but can now expect a significant pay-rise when he signs an extension.
