Chelsea players ratings vs Manchester City: The best and the worst of Conte’s men

A dismal showing from Chelsea saw them lose for the second time at Stamford Bridge this season as Manchester City beat them by a goal to nil.

Chelsea started off brightly with Morata and Hazard troubling the City defence but could not continue down that road after Morata was subbed off with an unfortunate hamstring injury.

Morata was replaced by Willian who put up yet another poor showing and Chelsea struggled to find an outlet upfront.

The defenders stood their ground and did not look they would concede until a moment of sheer brilliance from former Blue Kevin De Bruyne sealed the game for City.

Here are the ratings for the Chelsea players ratings vs Manchester City:

Thibaut Courtois – 8/10

Cannot be blamed for the defeat by any means as he was the reason Chelsea were still in it. Superb saves to deny Silva and Fernandinho but could do nothing to stop De Bruyne’s belter.

Antonio Rudiger – 8/10

The German was strong albeit a bit loose and wasteful on the ball. Made a stunning goal-line clearance late on to deny Jesus from doubling City’s lead.

Andreas Christensen – 8.5/10

Easily the best Chelsea player on the bitch. Looked super composed and kept Jesus out of the game for most parts. Always made the right challenge and deserves to be kept in the side after Luiz’s return as well.

Gary Cahill – 7/10

Struggled with Sterling’s pace throughout but was relatively solid for large parts of the game.

Cesar Azpilicueta – 7/10

Moved to right back in order to deal with Leroy Sane and did so quite decently but offered very little going forward for Chelsea.

Tiemoue Bakayoko – 6.5/10

Was a really good cover for the defence winning the ball umpteen times in the middle of the park but he did not know what to do with it. Could not impose himself in the game.

N’Golo Kante – 6/10

Fatigue seemed to get the better of the Frenchman after an excruciatingly tiring Champions League performance. Lost the ball way too often and his passing was off the radar as well.

Cesc Fabregas – 5/10

Another poor showing for the Spaniard as he could not find the final pass much to everyone’s surprise. Got ran over often in midfield as well and must improve after the international break.

Marcos Alonso – 5/10

The Spanish wing-back had a tough evening as he struggled to deal with Sterling’s pace and he could not offer much going forward too.

Eden Hazard – 6.5/10

Lovely touches and quick feet from the Belgian to start the game but he struggled after Morata’s withdrawal as he did not have an outlet. Could not impact the game as much as he would have liked to.

Alvaro Morata -7/10

Started the game extremely brightly and sent Stones back to Everton with an Outrageous combination of pace and skill but an unfortunate injury cut short his involvement in the match.

Substitutes:

Willian – 4/10

Dreadful performance from the Brazilian and it is hard to see what is going wrong with him. Poor with set pieces, shoddy with the ball at his feet. Poor decision by Conte to bring him on ahead of Michy Batshuayi.

Pedro – 5/10

Did nothing noteworthy after replacing Eden Hazard.

Michy Batshauyi – 5/10

Was left all alone by himself and lacked support. Can’t be blamed.
