When Real Madrid first came looking for Thibaut Courtois, Chelsea pushed them away successfully by demanding a transfer fee which was well over £70 million. Now though, things are looking a bit gloomy for the London outfit.

Reports suggest that the Chelsea keeper has refused to put pen to paper on a new contract. Courtois will soon enter the final 12 months of his contract and the news states that the player has told the Blues board that negotiations on a new deal will only take place once the current season comes to an end.

And more the contract discussions are delayed the more Real Madrid will feel positive about bringing Courtois to the Bernabeu.

While speaking before the Champions League clash against Qarabag, the 25-year-old has made it very clear that talks about a new contract is something that Chelsea will have to discuss with his agent.

“The most important thing is to perform well for myself and the team,” Courtois said.

“Regarding my contract, that’s the thing where Chelsea must deal with my agent. I don’t think there have been any new developments.

“We have so many games at the moment, and I prefer to focus on the team’s games, my own performances, and there will be time enough towards the end of the season to have talks.”

Chelsea take on Qarabag at Baku on Wednesday and then they return back to London and again take on Liverpool on Saturday before the clock strikes the 72-hour mark. Antonio Conte has already cried foul over the schedule claiming that his team will not get the minimum amount of rest that is required before such a high profile clash against Liverpool.
