Chelsea have moved one step closer towards signings Antonio Rudiger from AS Roma.
According to reports, the German International’s representatives have flown to London in order to finalise the deal. Roma have already accepted a bid of £34 million and only the personal terms are left to be discussed. This is probably why Rudiger’s representatives are flying to London.
Chelsea have narrowly missed out on Romelu Lukaku in the past few days. But with the signing of Rudiger, the Blues are hoping to get over that disappointment.
Chelsea have without a doubt been one of the poor performers in this transfer window, having signed only Willy Caballero on a free transfer from Manchester City. But with the signature of Antonio Rudiger, the Blues are hoping to add some much-needed wind onto their sails.
Is Rudiger really worth £34 million?
To put it very simply, No.
Roma are making a lot of money out of a player whom they had signed for only €9 million back in 2015. But the price looks like Chelsea’s desperation more than anything else. The Stamford Bridge outfit have yet to sign any high profile player this summer. And they clearly feel that the tide is turning against them with each passing day.
Chelsea looked all set to sign Romelu Lukaku but somehow the Belgian chose Man Utd over his former club. And Antonio Conte is reportedly furious that the management was unable to see the deal through. So clearly Chelsea now feel that they need to sign a top class player just to calm things down a bit.
The Football Fan Base view:
The 24-year-old is a gifted athlete and has a great physical presence. And this is nothing short of an asset in the Premier League. The German International is also capable of playing in a lot of different positions. Meaning that Conte can use him in a variety of roles in the back-line.
So we feel even though Chelsea are paying a bit too much for Rudiger but the player clearly has the goods that can make him a top player in the English League.
