In the past few weeks, Manchester United and Chelsea have been playing passing-the-pillow with each other’s transfer targets.

First Manchester United made a last minute entry and managed to sign Chelsea’s long-term target Romelu Lukaku. And shortly after that, there were various reports that Chelsea had moved their focus to Alvaro Morata, the player that Manchester United wished to sign earlier.

But now according to a report in the Metro, Chelsea have found an alternative to both Lukaku and Morata, in the form of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gabon International who is currently one of the hottest striking prospects in the world had already told Dortmund that he wished to leave the club in the summer. This statement of his attracted a lot of top flight European teams towards him. And now it looks as if Chelsea have just added themselves to that list.

Aubameyang joined the BVB outfit in 2013 from Saint-Étienne. And in these four years, the 28-year-old has turned himself into a goal machine. In the previous season, Aubameyang slotted home 40 goals for Dortmund, in just 46 matches.

Chelsea boss recently dismissed Diego Costa of his duties, meaning that the Blues are currently without any top class striker amongst their ranks. And their main target having already signed for Manchester United, it looks as if Aubameyang is the best alternative for Chelsea right now.

The Premier League Champions are having one of the worst transfer windows out of the top flight teams in England. So far they have managed to make only two signings. They brought in Willy Caballero from City on a free transfer and then signed Antonio Rudiger from AS Roma.

With all the other teams making good progress in the market, Chelsea need to buckle up and shift gears quickly.
