A shocking defeat at the hands of Burnley during the opening weekend has suddenly woken up the Chelsea management from their luxurious slumber. As soon as the 9 men of Chelsea walked out of the pitch, there were numerous reports about Chelsea targeting every possible available player on the face of this earth.

And as per the latest news, Chelsea boss Roman Abramovich is willing to shell out as much as £130 million on bringing in reinforcements before the transfer window shuts down. Before the start of the new campaign, there was a lot of chitter chatter amongst the pundits that Chelsea might not be ready to defend their title. And since the first game got over, these hush-hush noises has been growing louder with each passing day.

Now the Chelsea management have decided that they need to make a few more signings if they really wish to replicate last season’s form. And the first player that they have targeted is Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic. Now it is very interesting to know that Premier League rivals, Manchester United have had a long standing interest in the Croatian and Mourinho has already made two unsuccessful bids for the Inter Milan striker. But both of those bids have fallen short of Inter Milan’s asking price of £50 million.

Jose Mourinho has openly claimed that he wishes to sign a wide player before the transfer window closes and everyone is expecting Ivan Perisic to be that man. But now a supposedly late entry by Chelsea will certainly make things a lot more interesting. And Chelsea are much more desperate that Manchester United, so they will certainly not shy away from splashing some extra cash on the player – if they have to. This will certainly put Inter Milan in the driver’s seat as the Italians can certainly get a good bargain out of the player if they have any real intentions of offloading him.

But having said that it will certainly not be easy for both United and Chelsea to tempt Perisic away from Italy as previous reports suggested that Inter were preparing a new and improved contract for the 28-year-old. And if Perisic chooses to accept it, then he will be the highest paid player in the club. So clearly Mourinho and Conte will have to pull up their socks if they wish to sign the dynamic winger.
