What is common between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi apart from the fact that they are the best footballers in the world right now? Well, both the La Liga sensations have been involved in an alleged tax fraud in Spain.

Messi and his father were sentenced to jail terms of 21 and 15 months respectively after they were found guilty of tax evasion and now it was Cristiano Ronaldo’s turn to face the authorities. The ex-United player has been accused of evading €14.7 million in taxes by creating a shell company outside Spain as a result of which the Portuguese stood in front of the court on Monday.

And it was here that he made a very startling comment on his future at Real Madrid. In the hearing which went on for one hour and 25 minutes, Ronaldo said, “In England, I never had these problems, that’s why I want to go back there”

“I always paid my taxes, always. In England and In Spain. And I always paid. As you know, I can not hide anything, it would be ridiculous on my part to do such a thing.

“I am an open book. you don’t need to do anything but type my name into Google and everything about Cristiano comes out.

“For example, Forbes magazine releases all of my earnings.”

While Ronaldo wanting to move out of Spain is nothing new as there were a few initial news that claimed that the Portuguese star wanted to quit Real Madrid simply because he was fed up of all these tax fraud cases. But none of those were as concrete as the one above.

And as soon as the news came out Manchester United have been put on high alert.
