Ajax have decided to sack their manager Marcel Keizer and his backroom staff which included former Arsenal legend, Dennis Bergkamp.

Ajax currently sit second on the Eredivisie table with 38 points – 5 points behind leaders PSV Eindhoven but the Amsterdam based club have decided to sack their manager.

The club released a statement on Thursday afternoon which stated that Marcel Keizer has been “removed from active duty.”

Ajax chief executive and former Man United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar and director of football Marc Overmars, made the decision to change the management staff.

Van der Sar said, “We had a bad summer and a messy start to the season,” said Van der Sar.

“From a sporting point of view, European elimination was the low point.

“Marc Overmars and I have frequently spoken in the months afterwards about the permanent volatility of the first team. We are not confident that we will achieve the level that we are striving for with Ajax in this way.”

Marcel Keizer took over former manager Peter Bosz during the summer but now Keizer along with his assistant managers Dennis Bergkamp and Hennie Spijkerman have also been axed.
