Eden Hazard Was On The Verge Of Joining London Rivals But What Made Him Change His Mind?

Eden Hazard starred in Chelsea’s 1-0 victory over AFC Bournemouth this weekend at the Vitality Stadium. The Belgian scored the only goal of the match and was easily the best player on the pitch for Chelsea. This was without a doubt the best we have seen him perform since his return from injury this season. The playmaker linked up perfectly with Alvaro Morata to produce some fine moments of magic throughout the game.

But current BT Sport pundit Harry Redknapp has admitted that Hazard was pretty close to joining his Tottenham Hotspur side back in 2012. Redknapp was managing the Lilywhites at that point of time and his team looked pretty certain to gain entry into the Champions League the very next campaign and they were scheduled to take up the spot of Chelsea. That is when Redknapp decided to approach Hazard – one of his top summer targets, thinking that the Belgian could be tempted to the White Hart Lane with the European carrot.

And in the end though, Hazard did go on to play Champions League football next season but that was with Chelsea after the Blues regained their Champions League spot by winning the trophy that season. Hazard signed for Roberto Di Matteo’s side that summer for a fee of around £32 million.

While speaking to BT Sport, Redknapp said, “I went to France, met him[Hazard] in a hotel room, three hours I was with him. That’s probably why he didn’t sign!”

So it looks as if Chelsea managed to get the signature of Eden Hazard only because they had managed to pull out that miraculous victory over Bayern Munich in the final. Had the result gone the other way then it is quite possible that we might have been Hazard as a Spurs player today.
