Former Chelsea ace Chris Sutton has blasted Antonio Conte and the Blues management for a failed transfer window as a result of which they just can’t keep up with the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City.

All these three teams spent heavily during the summer transfer window with both Chelsea and Man City splurging out £200 million while Man Utd ended up spending £150 million. But amongst this trio, Chelsea are the only team that are clearly struggling to keep up pace. Both the Manchester teams are fighting it out for the Premier League title while Chelsea sitting fourth on the league table – 9 points behind league leaders Man City.

And now Chris Sutton has pointed out that Chelsea are suffering such a fate because of a flawed transfer market. The Blues signed the likes of Alvaro Morata and Tiemoue Bakayoko before the start of the season but they also lost a few of their key players like Diego Costa and Nemanja Matic. And Sutton feels that the Chelsea boss has been unable to find an ideal replacement.

Sutton said, “Keeping up[with United and City] was the important thing,

“It was big to lose Costa and Matic and they knew they had to compete on the European front as well. It was always an issue.

“It was clear to everybody that they’d struggle if key players got injured as they had certain issues in key areas.

“And that’s what’s happening now. Last season, they were fortunate in terms of keeping players fit. They didn’t use too many players to win the Premier League.”

“They needed to be lucky again but that hasn’t happened.”

Chelsea face Everton in the Football League Cup’s Round of 16 in midweek after which they will travel on the road to face AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday.
