Former Chelsea misfit and current Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne has lashed out at Chelsea and their handling of young players.
According to De Bruyne, Chelsea’s policy of sending out young players on loan in order to develop them was one of the main reasons as to why he left Stamford Bridge in order to join Wolfsburg in 2014.
The playmaker joined Chelsea back in 2012 from Genk but after just playing 3 games for the club he was loaned out to Bundesliga side Weder Bremen. And when he returned back to Chelsea he found it really hard to secure a first-team place under then manager Jose Mourinho – eventually joining Wolfsburg in 2014 for a fee of around £18 million. The very next summer though he moved back to the Premier League when he joined Manchester City for a staggering £55 million.
Right now the 26-year-old is easily one of the finest playmakers in the whole of Europe and now he has absolutely lashed out at Chelsea and their youth policy.
De Bruyne said in his biography, “After those experiences, I’d rather wanted to be sold,” said De Bruyne. “Otherwise, I would end up in the same situation all over again: playing well on loan, returning to your parent club and then, every year again, feel like the young player back from loan who still has everything to prove.
“That’s something I didn’t want to experience for the third time in a row.”, De Bruyne continued
“At Chelsea they wanted me to stay, but I had the feeling I wouldn’t get a fair chance, that’s why I wanted to move to a club that wanted to pay Chelsea’s asking price.”
