Tottenhman Hotspur’s deadline day signing Fernando Llorente speaks on why he chose to snub Chelsea at the last moment and join the Lilywhites. Llorente looked all set to join the Blues on deadline day but during the final hours he took a u-turn and joined Spurs. And now he has revealed the real reason as to why he took such a decision.

Speaking to a tabloid, the Spaniard said that a last minute phone call from Mauricio Pochettino changed his stance and also affected his final decision. Llorente revealed that Chelsea were after him for a long time but in the end it was Pochettino’s phone call that convinced him to join Spurs.

Llorente said, “At the very last minute, Pochettino called me and convinced me,

“The truth is that Chelsea have been after me for a long time but at the end you know how this works.

“I am very happy because at the end everything came out perfect. Tottenham are an amazing club with a wonderful project and I think I fit in very well.”

Chelsea were after the Spaniard during the early parts of the transfer window but that moved fell through due to a failed price negotiation between Swansea and the Blues. But the interest from Chelsea resurfaced and the 32-year-old looked all set to join his former manager Antonio Conte. That was until Mauricio Pocettino made a phone call and changed the course of the transfer.

It is very funny how a lack of convincing power and banning the manager from speaking to players has cost Chelsea so many transfers this summer. At first Conte presumably failed to persuade Chamberlain and the Englishman joined Liverpool at a much lower wage. Then due to this the Chelsea board prevented Conte from speaking to Ross Barkley resulting in loss of that transfer too.

But having said all this, will Chelsea really be affected by this transfer not taking place? What do you think?
