Mesut Ozil took to Facebook to vocalize his disappointments after a torrid time following the defeat to Liverpool. While any defeat by a 4-0 score line would be hard to deal with, the one against Liverpool held more significance, simply because of the extent of the capitulation.

The post was posted on a day when Ozil completed 4 years as an Arsenal player. Having joined the club on deadline day in 2013; Mesut Ozil has enjoyed a mixed time at the club. Having won 3 FA Cups and 2 community shields; he was also on the receiving end of a lot of humiliating defeats from rivals, and the game against Liverpool was no different.

In what has been a tumultuous week for Arsenal fans, Ozil’s letter should have been a sedative. The post does have instances of Ozil asking fans to be optimistic as they have a lot to fight for, but it ends with Ozil speculating his future at the club.

“Even though I personally do not know how my career will continue after this year, I look forward to my fifth season with Arsenal”

Most of the fans fear for the worst, as Mesut’s contract expires in 12 months’ time, meaning he could leave for free.

Another important part of his rant was a scathing attack to his doubters, with more of his focus on ex-Gunners who have been overly critical about Ozil’s performance of late.

“Personally, I’ve had to accept a lot of criticism during my time in London. ‘Too expensive, too greedy, bad body language, and lacking fight’ – this is what people have said about me”.

“Some of these comments are made by those who do not know me, some are made by former players – both successful and unsuccessful during their time here at the club.

“Although criticism is something that all football players have to deal with, I nevertheless expected legends to behave like legends – my advice to these former Gunners: stop talking and start supporting!”

Ian Wright, an Arsenal legend, who was one of the pundits to have voiced his concern over Ozil has dubbed his post as ‘Laughable’. He has questioned the love he proclaims for the club in his hesitation for signing a contract extension.

While Sanchez has hogged up much of the limelight, Ozil remains another important name whose contract runs out next summer.

He also demands of Ozil to showcase that passion out on a Football pitch.

“You’re not signing a deal and you’re probably going to continue to hide behind the fact [Alexis] Sanchez is the one that everybody’s going to say, ‘Is he going to go?’.

“A player that is not actually performing on the pitch is coming out, calling people out — and he’s not signing a contract.

“It’s laughable. When they start playing, we’ll stop criticizing. Ozil has been talking a lot — but what exactly is he doing? Sign a new contract and show how much you care about Arsenal.”

It sure is tough times to be a Gunner and a Gooner.
