After the “Invitation to Bid” passed its deadline on Thursday the ISL management was supposed to announce the new franchises on Friday.

But now the proposition has been postponed and the new ISL teams announcement will take place after the AFC meet. That is after June 7th.

This proposal was made by AFC General Secretary Dato Windsor during his meeting with the AIFF. According to him, the bids should be made public only after the meeting has taken place in Kuala Lumpur.

During the meeting, the ISL is hopefully going to get recognition from the AFC. This would mean that the winners of the ISL will get to play in the AFC Cup qualifiers.

Bids were invited from 10 cities all across India. And we already know that Bengaluru FC and the Tata Group have submitted bids to buy a franchise. While Bengaluru FC are going to play from their home ground at Bengaluru. Tata’s are eager to put out a team from Jamshedpur.

It is also a notable incident that the two Kolkata giants East Bengal and Mohun Bagan had both showed eagerness to play in the ISL. But none of them have actually submitted the documents before the deadline.

The clubs have reportedly held back on the documents because their demands have not been met. So as per the rules, both East Bengal and Mohun Bagan are currently not eligible to play in this year’s ISL. But it things do get sorted out then we are pretty sure that the AIFF will make some arrangements to accommodate these two clubs
