Jose Mourinho has once again picked up a fight but this time it is not with a fellow manager or club but with his own supporters at Old Trafford.

He has recently been critical of the atmosphere at the Theatre of Dreams and has urged the fans to back him and his team. The issue all started when he strongly opposed the fans for being too cynical towards summer signing Romelu Lukaku. He told the fans to think of Lukaku as being ‘untouchable’ in the team. And then came the “finger on his lips” gesture which too was directed towards the home fans after the 1-0 victory over Spurs this past weekend.

But after the laboured win against Benfica in midweek, former United legend and current pundit Roy Keane has blasted Mourinho for actions and has urged him to stay focused on his job. Keane advised Mourinho to ‘shut up and do his job’.

While speaking on ITV’s Champions League Highlights Show, Keane said, “My only concern with Mourinho is that he seems to be distracted by the so-called critics out there,” began Keane. “He’s probably paid £8-9million pound a year. Focus on your job.

“Rise above all that. You should be better than that. But he seems to get easily upset.

“Just shut up and get on with your job, you’re getting very well paid for it.”

This growing tension between Mourinho and a section of the United fans has certainly caught the attention of the footballing world. So much so that the Manchester United Supporters Trust have requested Mourinho to come and have a dialogue with them so that they can swiftly resolve any issues before United take on Newcastle at Old Trafford on November 18.
