Karim Benzema has spoken out about how Jose Mourinho once insulted him while the pair were together at Real Madrid.

Benzema joined Real Madrid back in 2009 while Mourinho was at the helm of the Los Blancos for three years. And during a Canal Plus documentary, Benzema has revealed some shocking details about the relationship that both of them shared at the Bernabeu.

Benzema has come out to say that the Portuguese manager once referred to him as a cat while comparing him with the then injured Gonzalo Higuain who was the dog in the whole conversation.

Mourinho had said, “If you don’t have a dog to go out hunting with you, and you have a cat, you have to go out with a cat. You can’t go out alone.

“We only have one attacker, who is Benzema. If Benzema plays, we don’t have anyone on the bench.

“If you don’t have Higuain you have a problem.”

Benzema also said that he later confronted the manager over the whole statement in order to make a point.

Benzema said, “I said what I had to say to him. We met for an hour. I am a footballer, you are my coach. I respect you, so you must respect me as a footballer.

“From then on there were no more stories of cats, or dogs or whatever.

“I am somewhat timid but if you are going to laugh at me, you’re going to have a confrontation with me.

“When things are talked about, everything goes better.”
