Bayer Leverkusen player Hakan Calhanoglu has been suspended for four months by FIFA due to a contract breach. However, Leverkusen does not have anything to do with the breach. The incident occurred back in 2011. The complaint was lodged by Turkish club Trabzonspor claiming that Hakan agreed to join them in 2011 but stayed back in Germany.

Trabzonspor who lodged a complaint with FIFA in 2013 had the ruling go in their favour and now Hakan will serve a 4-month ban and also pay 100,000 Euros to Trabzonspor.

The ban means that Calhanoglu will miss the remainder of the season for Leverkusen. He will miss the Champions League match against Atletico Madrid as well as Turkey’s World Cup Qualifiers match against Finland on March 24.

Leverkusen sports director Rudi Voeller said the club it was a big blow for the both the club and Hakan. He also went on to add that even though Leverkusen were not involved with the incident but still they are being punished heavily.
