Liverpool FC have officially ended their interest in signing Dutch International Virgil van Dijk after rumours of an illegal approach to buy the player.

Southampton had earlier complained that Liverpool were using unfair and illegal means to buy their player. The Saints had also threatened to use legal action against Liverpool. This came after rumours that Van Dijk had told Liverpool that he wanted to join the Reds. But apparently, there were no formal negotiations between the two clubs.

Now Liverpool have released a formal statement on their website stating that they have officially pulled out of the race and do not wish to sign the Southampton player this season.
