Belgian International Romelu Lukaku sat down with ESPN FC, right after his £75 million move to Manchester United.

The 24-year-old who is currently holidaying in the United States finished his medical there. And is expected to join Mourinho’s men on their pre-season tour in the States.

In an exclusive interview with ESPN’s Alexis Nunes, he spoke his heart out and explained as to why he chose Manchester United over Chelsea.

“This is an opportunity that I’ve always wanted since I was a child. When (United) came calling, I didn’t have to think twice. So I’m really delighted to hopefully be part of their history.”, he told ESPN FC.

Lukaku was initially tipped to return back to Chelsea, the club he left in 2014 to join Everton. But United got involved into the mix and successfully negotiated a deal with the Toffees. Chelsea tried to turn the tables by placing a late bid for the Belgian, but by then it was too late to affect anything.

“I would say, ‘Who would say no to the biggest club in the world?”

“My mind was already set. I gave my word, and I don’t look back,” he said. “I didn’t look back since, and I was already mentally preparing to be part of the team.”

“I think Manchester United at the minute wants to be the dominant team, that dominant force. If you look at their history, it says enough. To become part of a club like them is something that I really wanted. I’m thankful for the opportunity that they gave me.

“Now it’s time to work hard, work harder than I ever did before. I’m willing to do it. Hopefully, it will come a good way.”
