Man City have moved one step closer to signing Benjamin Mendy from Monaco. This after the 22-year-old left back has made it clear to the Monaco management that he wants to move to Man City.

Top Premier League clubs like Liverpool, Chelsea and City were chasing the talented left-back. But after meeting all the three managers Mendy has decided that his future lies with City.

We take a look at why this left-back would fit in perfectly into the Guardiola system:

Defence:

Benjamin Mendy has played 32 games in the whole of last season for Monaco. And the 22-year-old has been able to gather some eye-catching stats. Mendy has won an astounding 1.75 tackles per game. The Frenchman has also managed to make a total of 102 clearances in those 32 games.

Defence has been a real worry for Guardiola in the whole of last season after his team leaked in a flurry of goals. A very rare sight for a team which is managed by Pep. But Mendy will surely be able to bring that much-needed composure in the left-back role for City.

Attack:

While Mendy is rock solid in defence, but his true talent lies while going forward. And in the era of wing-backs, Mendy will be nothing short of an asset to Guardiola. The left-back has created 35 chances in the whole of last season for Monaco. That is more than 1 chance per game.

He has also assisted 8 goals in the previous season and at City, he can be the perfect partner to Alexis Sanchez. Sanchez can easily drift into the central midfield which he often loves to do. And that will leave acres of space open for Mendy to overlap and put those crosses into the box.
