Manchester City and Pep Guardiola have been recently clearing up a lot of dead wood from their squad. A host of City players have decided to leave the club in the summer.

This would only mean that Guardiola is preparing for a major revamp for the upcoming season. Man City have already signed midfielder Bernardo Silva from AS Monaco. And it looks as if they are now ready to bring in their second major signing.

Pep Guardiola is close to signing goalkeeper Ederson Moraes from Benfica in a record 35 million pounds deal. If City do manage to pull out this deal then Moreas will be the highest transferred goalkeeper. The current record being held by Gianluigi Buffon when the Italian moved from Parma to Juventus.

The goalkeeping position has been quite a headache for Guardiola since his early days at Man City. He had a famous training ground bust-up with Joe Hart following which the English international was loaned off. Guardiola then brought in Claudio Bravo to fill in the hole. But unfortunately, that did not work out as well. Now City’s second choice keeper Caballero has also left the club.

Guardiola has shown a keen interest in Moraes for quite some time now and he is willing to pay a record transfer fee. The Man City boss will try and bring in the 23-year-old Brazilian to challenge Bravo for the number one spot.

But signing the Benfica goalkeeper would effectively mean that Joe Hart will not make a comeback to the club.
