Manchester United had the chance to sign both Gabriel Jesus and Kylian Mbappe for just £5 million a couple of seasons back but chose not to – according to Ryan Giggs.

The former Man United winger has revealed that while he was in the managerial team of former boss Louis Van Gaal he had the opportunity to see both Gabriel Jesus and Kylian Mbappe and he even urged United to sign them up, but no one was interested.

Giggs went on say that the signings would have been an absolute no-brainer and the Red Devils would have got both the players a fee of around £5 million. Now, a couple of seasons down the line, Kylian Mbappe is on loan to PSG and will make the move permanent next season for a reported fee of €180 million. While Gabriel Jesus who has joined Manchester City has yet to end up on a losing side for the Citizens.

While speaking to the Times, Giggs said, “I know what a Manchester United player looks like. It’s not saying it in hindsight, the recruitment hasn’t been great.

“I watched Gabriel Jesus play three years ago. I wanted Mbappe for a year. I was watching them with the scout and it was a no-brainer.

“It was just like, ‘Get them’. It would have been £5million or something – get them, loan them back. That’s where the recruitment could have been better.”

Hard luck United fans.
