It looks as if Manchester United have renewed their interest in Monaco’s defensive midfielder Fabinho after the Nemanja Matic move looks to have failed.

Manchester United were tipped to sign Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic during the last week. But now it looks as if the deal has collapsed. United have already signed Chelsea’s prime transfer target Romelu Lukaku. And now the Blues are adamant not to lose another player to their Premier League rivals.

Last month the Red Devils were being heavily linked with the 23-year-old Brazilian. And now United look to have moved their focus back to Fabinho.

According to a report in Metro, the Brazilian International has told Monaco that he wants to leave the club in the summer. And United look to be in pole position to sign the defensive midfielder.

A proper replacement for Matic?

Ever since the Premier League season came to an end, United manager Jose Mourinho has been on the hunt for a defensive midfielder. He is looking for someone who can partner Ander Herrera deep in midfield.

And Fabinho fits the brief perfectly. His playing position is very similar to that of Matic. But unlike the Chelsea man, Fabinho is a regular goalscorer. The Brazilian has scored 11 goals for Monaco in the previous season. While Matic has managed just 2 goals for Chelsea.

Another big advantage of signing Fabinho over Nemanja Matic is the age factor. While Matic is 28 years old, Fabinho is just 23. So spending a large sum of money for a 23-year-old will make much more sense.
