Man Utd and Jose Mourinho have apparently shortlisted Alvaro Morata are their long term striker.

Man Utd were initially chasing Romelu Lukaku of Everton after he refused to sign a new contract with the Merseyside team. United had contacted his manager to inquire about the possible transfer. But it looks as if Lukaku is more inclined towards returning back to Chelsea. Hence it looks as if Mourinho has chosen Morata as a substitute.

Man Utd
Lukaku wants to go back to Chelsea rather than join Man Utd.

Morata came up the ranks at Real Madrid but was eventually sold off to Juventus in 2014 with a buy back clause in the future. He then went on to have two outstanding seasons with the Italians. And in 2016, Real Madrid triggered the buy back clause and brought him back to Spain. But since his homecoming, Morata has been nothing but a second fiddle to Karim Benzema. He has spent most of his time warming the bench. And if a team like Manchester United come calling then he will surely think about the move.

Man Utd
Morata has made only 14 appearances for Real Madrid this season in the La Liga.

Mourinho has also an advantage if he decides to sign Morata. By doing so he will not be placing his bets on an unknown striker. Mourinho has worked with him back in the days when the Portuguese used to manage Real Madrid. And Mourinho is well aware of all the qualities that Morata possess.

Mourinho wants this deal to be wrapped up quickly as he wants all his new signings to be a part of the team when the club leaves for their pre-season fixtures.

News has been afloat that Man Utd have decided not to provide Zlatan Ibrahimovic with a new deal. If this holds to be true then United will be left with no impactful strikers. So signing Morata is obviously a great option.
