Goals from Antonio Valencia, Romelu Lukaku, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Anthony Martial helped Manchester United to a 4-0 win over Everton.

Manchester United were off the block in sublime fashion as Antonio Valencia rifled in a volley from close range after just four minutes. Wayne Rooney and Gylfi Sigurdsson came close for the visitors, but a late glut of goals from the hosts guaranteed the points for Jose Mourinho’s men.

Let’s look at Manchester United’s player’s ratings from the Man Utd vs Everton game:

David de Gea – 7/10

The shots he faced weren’t easy and could have easily gone into change the dynamic of the game, but such is the nature of United’s shot-stopper, he just makes it look so easy!

Antonio Valencia – 8/10

What a hit son, what a hit! Probably the sweetest connection he will make with a football in his entire career. Was defensively sound and seems to be enjoying captaincy.

Eric Bailly – 7/10

Apart from the one mistake that led to Rooney’s chance on goal, Bailly had a resolute performance at the back, yet again it may seem. He is fast becoming an indispensable name in the Starting XI. Picked up a needless booking late on, should work on that aspect of his game.

Phil Jones – 6/10

A few defensive errors from the Englishman, but was solid otherwise. Up against his former captain in Wayne Rooney, he kept him out of the game for most of the first half. No-nonsense defending on the night, as usual.

Ashley Young – 7/10

Jose Mourinho might have unearthed another gem at Manchester United. Ashley relished the opportunity of playing down the wings again and did well on his part. Won’t be a surprise to see him feature regularly this season.

Nemanja Matic – 7/10

A calming presence in front of the defence. He was largely influential in keeping Everton from scoring in their dangerous spells of the game. Not the best of games, but he was still up to the task.

Marouane Fellaini – 6/10

One player who will profit from Paul’s absence is the afro-haired Belgian. Once again, was laborious in midfield, but was largely stuck to that role and didn’t venture forward much.

Juan Mata – 6/10

Was disappointing on the night. Was unlucky to see his free-kick cannon out of the post, but was largely anonymous in the midfield.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 6.5/10

There were instances in the game where he looked out of it and was struggling for inspiration, but much like most of this campaign, he got one chance and he took it. He seemed to have been given the freedom to play anywhere in midfield, and should have done better with that opportunity.

Marcus Rashford – 5/10

Probably the most disappointing player on the night for Manchester United. Didn’t really offer much in attack and was rightfully taken off with half an hour left.

Romelu Lukaku – 6/10

Missed a one on one in the first half and looked devoid of service, but like every good striker, he waited for his chance and took it. Helped himself to an assist too.

Substitutes:

Jesse Lingard – 6/10

Looked to make something happen down United’s left after Rashford’s ineffectiveness.

Ander Herrera – 5/10

A player who has sat out for most of the games this season. Playing the final 14 minutes would have been a good experience for the Spaniard.

Anthony Martial – 7/10

A dazzling dribble leading to a penalty, which he duly converted. Yet another cameo, yet another goal.
