Manchester City players’ ratings vs Everton: A match with too many talking points

It was a match filled with drama at the Etihad Stadium even though it ended in a stalemate. Raheem Sterling’s late volley cancelled out a first half goal from Wayne Rooney, his 200th in the Premier League as the teams shared the spoils. Both teams ended with a man down following Kyle Walker’s first half sending off and Morgan Schneiderlin’s late sending off. However both the decision’s seemed a bit too harsh from referee Bobby Madley.

Here are Manchester City players’ ratings vs Everton:

Ederson – 5.5/10

City’s new goalkeeper would have wished he did better as Rooney’s effort ricocheted between his legs before going in. His distribution was pretty sharp.

Vincent Kompany – 6/10

The captain seemed rather slow off the blocks as he was repeatedly tested by youngster Calvert- Lewin which eventually led to a booking. Not his best performance in a City shirt.

John Stones – 6/10

Not really troubled by the Everton attack by any means. He looked comfortable on the ball. But Guardiola had to sacrifice him to bring on Danilo as City chased the game.

Nicolas Otamendi – 6.5/10

Strong at the back like always and especially after City were reduced to 10 men. He also tested Jordan Pickford with a couple of stinging strikes when he got forward.

Kyle Walker – 5/10

From Man of the Match in the last game to some sort of a villain in this one. The Englishman could not be blamed for the red card as the decision was quite harsh. Will miss the next game.

Fernandinho – 6.5/10

Throughout the game, he was asked to play in various positions. Extremely valuable player in situations like this and played like a warrior. Although, he over committed into a tackle in the build up to Everton’s opener.

Kevin De Bruyne – 6.5/10

He was instrumental in City’s fight back. Always looked to use the ball constructively as he scrapped for every inch of territory. Looked the likeliest Cit player to cause Everton trouble but he still can offer much more to City.

David Silva – 6.5/10

Hit the post after an exquisite Aguero pass had set him up. Looked threatening in the second half as he always looked to play the killer pass.

Leroy Sane – 5/10

His defensive frailties were exposed as he was played in an unfamiliar left wing back position. Lost the ball while trying to pass it to Kompany in the build up to Everton’s goal. Did not offer much in the attacking third as well.

Gabriel Jesus – 5.5/10

One of his most forgettable performances in a City shirt. He looked poor before being replaced for Raheem Sterling to strengthen City’s right side. He needs to be a little stronger on the ball.

Sergio Aguero – 6/10

Strange performance from the Argentine as he chose the wrong option on several times when he had a clear sight of goal. Led the line decently in the second half without much to show for.

Substitutes:

Raheem Sterling – 7.5/10

Changed the game for City by providing them with more impetus and drive in a weakened midfield. Scored the equaliser with a venomous volley into the bottom corner.

Danilo – 7/10

Was instrumental in the build up to the equaliser. It was his cross that caused chaos in an organised Everton defence. Will be looking to capitalise on Walker’s red card in the next game.

Bernardo Silva – 7.5/10

Impressive cameo off the bench. Did not place a foot wrong. He has more to offer if given 90 minutes and he is knocking on the door for a place in the starting lineup.
