How is Manchester City’s record signing settling in at the Etihad?

The former Benfica custodian is taking everything in his stride as he settles into life in the Premier League.

The Brazilian goalkeeper who recently received his first national team call-up is seen by Pep Guardiola as his next solution for City’s goalkeeping woes.

Having unceremoniously gotten rid of fan favourite Joe Hart, the Spaniard brought in Chilean Claudio Bravo from Barcelona to replace him but saw him fail to convince and replaced eventually by veteran Willy Caballero who has, since then, gone on to leave the club and join Chelsea.

Ederson Moraes thus became the world’s second most expensive goalkeeper with City having to part ways with £34.7 million to secure his services.

However, his move seems to have gone under the radar, owing to the inflation in the market and Bravo’s absence from the summer tour.

“The price of my transfer doesn’t matter much to me,” he told The Sun.

“If it was £10m, £20m or £30m, for me it doesn’t matter.

“Friends have said to me: ‘How does it feel to be the second-most expensive keeper in history?’

“I’m ready for that. It’s not going to affect my concentration. I’m calm and ready to do a great job here at Manchester City.”

Ederson caught the eye in pre-season with his kicking game, with Guardiola admitting he had marvelled at it before signing him. Opposition defences will have to plan for the long ball but won’t know when to expect it.

“Whether I use the long kick all depends on the moment, only at certain stages of the game.”

Pep seems to really want the goalkeeper to play a part in starting moves out from the back and Ederson seems to be able to provide that.

The 24-year-old is comfortable on the ball, can play short passes to his defenders and boasts of an occasional monstrous long kick that can catch out opposition sides. He had several assists during his time at Benfica and will be looking to provide similar impact at the Etihad.

Add to that he also has terrific reflexes and specializes in one-on-one situations.

Ederson Moraes is by the looks of it, a confident young lad who is ready to develop into a great goalkeeper and establish himself as City’s number one for years to come.

Ederson and City will be gearing up for the first home game of the season as an ever improving Everton side pay them a visit on Monday.
