Amidst all the midfield injury crisis, Jose Mourinho has finally received some good news after midfield veteran Michael Carrick has reported back to first team training.

The midfielder has been plagued by a mystery illness which has confused both the manager as well as the team doctors. And his absence became more concerning after both Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini were sidelined with injuries. While Fellaini is expected to be fit within the next week but one-time world record signing Pogba still does not have a fixed return date. This proved to be a severe headache for the manager as he only had Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera as his first-team midfielders.

But now the arrival of Carrick is undoubtedly a big boost for the manager as well as the team. Even though the Englishman has been left out of the squad that is scheduled to face Benfica today but we have a feeling that he can find a place in the starting XI that will face Chelsea during the weekend.

Carrick has already spent 12 long years at Manchester United and he will most definitely retire at the end of the current season. While there have been some rumours that he might head to West Brom this January but a few senior pros from Manchester have said that the 36-year-old is determined to honour his full contract at the Theatre of Dreams.
