Manchester United won the first leg of the semi-finals in the Europa League 1-0 against Celta Vigo.
Manchester United came back to England with a victory and an all-important away goal. They also managed to keep a clean sheet. That was an added bonus. United should have won the match handsomely with three or four goals. But their finishing way off target for most of the night. Ultimately it was Marcus Rashford free kick with became the deciding factor for the match.
Rashford who was brilliant all throughout the match scored a wonderful free kick in the 67th minute to gather all three points. Celta did prove to be a treat in bits and pieces but did nothing special to trouble the United defence.
Here are the Manchester United player ratings:
Sergio Romero: 6.5/10
Produced one acrobatic save on the half-hour mark. Other than that did not have much to throughout the match.
Daley Blind: 6/10
Had a rather calm night. Did not have much trouble dealing with the forwards. His distribution from the back was praiseworthy.
Eric Bailly: 7/10
Back from injury played a solid game at the back. Like Blind has a quite evening.
Antonio Valencia: 7/10
Was solid in defense and made some good runs while going forward.
Matteo Darmian: 5.5./10
Had a good enough game at the back. Not much to talk about really.
Had another reckless game. He could have easily been sent off in the second half. Made some reckless challenges. And other than winning headers he did not provide any more assistance to the team.
Had more than a decent game. Took control of the midfield for most of the match. Made some good forward passes in and around the opponent’s penalty box.
Had a rather subdued game. He sat back and let Pogba take control. Did a lot of chasing and covered the ground. Thankfully his team did not need him much on the night.
Make some good forward runs and came down to receive the ball whenever necessary. But he missed two easy chances to put United in front.
Missed a great chance to put United ahead in the first half. Even though the goalkeeper made a good save but his standard he should have scored. Was a bit clumsy in possession and kept losing the ball every now and then.
Had a brilliant game. His work ethics on the night were more than commendable. He had an early sighter on goal in the first half but it was brilliantly saved by the goalkeeper. In the second half, he scored a wonderful free kick that eventually won United the match.
Ashley Young: NA
Was on the pitch for a few minutes after being withdrawn with what looked like a hamstring injury.
