Manchester United are on the verge of signing Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan. It is understood that United have moved into advanced talks with Inter Milan over the £48 million move.

At first, Inter were adamant not to sell off one of their best players but later the management agreed to the fact that they will not hold back any player against their will. And now it looks as if a Perisic’s move to United is just a matter of time.

We take a look at how Ivan Perisic might just be the best bit of business that United might do in the summer:

United’s love for wingers:

Manchester United is one of the few teams in football that have a long history of wingers. From the likes of David Beckham to Cristiano Ronaldo, United have produced a long list of top class wingers. United have played some of their best football when they have played in the 4-4-2 formation. But now as the game is evolving, United look to have lost that knack of playing two out and out wingers.

Currently United have only two recognised wingers in their squad, Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young. But neither of them play in that position. While Valencia is now an out and out right back, Young plays a variety of different positions across the field.

But with the signing of Ivan Perisic, Manchester United will be buying an orthodox winger. A player who sticks to the flank and puts crosses into the box. So with players like Mata, Mkhitaryan and Martial who all want to cut inside the pitch with every chance they get, Perisic will be a much-needed refreshment.

Defensive advantage:

In the previous season, the left side of the pitch has been one of the weakest areas for Jose Mourinho’s men. The team has leaked a series of goals through that side of the pitch and this has been mainly due to the fact that the likes of Martial and Lingard are not very good at tracking back. While these guys are wonderful while taking part in attacks but when it comes to defensive duties they are not quite up for that challenge.

But with Perisic, things will be a whole lot different. The Croatian has a high work rate and is also solid defensively. The 28-year-old has no problems in tracking back when his team needs it. This means that the left-back will get a much-needed support and Mourinho can finally shut down that faulty left side.

Perisic will help Romelu Lukaku:

Well for starters, Lukaku is a player who likes to play in and around the opponents penalty area. The Belgian is someone who is always on the shoulder of the last defender waiting for that through ball or that killer cross. And this is where that Perisic can come into play. The Croatian is a wonderful crosser of the ball, and this can immensely help Romelu Lukaku to become a success in his first season at the club.
