In a piece of transfer news that will infuriate Arsenal fans, it seems that Mesut Ozil, the talismanic Arsenal midfielder is ready to see out his contract at the club in order to force a move to rivals, Manchester United.

The last move made from Arsenal to Manchester United gave United their 20th league title, and the team have been on the hunt for the 21st ever since.

Jose Mourinho has made his admiration for the German international public on various occasions, even terming him as the best #10 in the world.

Mourinho stated after Mesut Ozil’s departure from Madrid:

“Özil is unique. There is no copy of him – not even a bad one. He is the best number 10 in the world.”

In fact, Mourinho was the reason why Ozil moved to the Bernabeu in the first place. Since then, the pair have been in contact with each other, often seen exchanging words after competing against each other in the Premier League. All of these indicate that the signs are there, maybe Ozil does make the switch after all.

Firstly, this move would make sense on paper as Ozil would walk into the starting XI of any team, such is his quality. Moreover, though he loves the club and the fans, Arsenal don’t seem to be contending for the title anytime soon with Arsene Wenger at the helm. Ozil does not lack ambition, his body language after a defeat shows how much of a winner he is. He would definitely love to be reunited with Mourinho, as United clearly look more likely to end their league drought before Arsenal.

Secondly, Manchester United do possess a plethora of attacking options, but Mesut Ozil provides them versatility. He can operate in the midfield trio, and could also provide crosses from the flanks in spite of his apparent lack of pace.

He would suit best to a 4-2-3-1 system, operating as a number 10 behind Romelu Lukaku. However, in order to accommodate him into the system, Mourinho might have to sacrifice Juan Mata to the sidelines.
