Mohun Bagan win their first away game of the season as they beat Chennai City FC by 2-1.

The match began with a frantic pace and the action was end to end. But Mohun Bagan came up with most of the better opportunities. But they were denied from scoring by Chennai goalkeeper Karanjit. Karanjit made some heroic saves to keep the match goalless. Chennai themselves posed a threat themselves, especially from counter attacks.

Mohun Bagan got a penalty in the first half and Sony Norde stepped up to take it. And again Kiranjit came to his team’s rescue as he kept away Norde shot and denied Bagan their opening goal. Both teams walked into halftime levelled at 0-0.

In the second half, the match took an unexpected turn as Chennai grabbed a goal much against the run of play thanks to Marcos Vinicius. But Bagan mustered an immediate response as they levelled up the match just 5 minutes later thanks to their prolific Indian striker Jeje Lalpekhlua. Bagan scored again in the 77th minute thanks to Sony Norde as he made amends for his earlier penalty miss.

The win takes Mohun Bagan to the top of the league table above Bengaluru FC. Bengaluru FC are set to play their match today against East Bengal and Bagan would be hoping that both the teams manage to slip up points.

Mohun Bagan play their next match on the 24th of January 2017 against DSK Shivajians. And  Chennai City FC host Aizawl FC on the 28th of January.
