Why Mourinho targeting this 25-year-old Swedish winger could be a master stroke

Manchester United have been having a really hard time in signing Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan. While Jose Mourinho remains one of the most respected managers in the Inter circuit due to his highly successful time there but that has in no ways softened the hearts of the Nerazzurri’s management.

Why is the Perisic deal taking so long?

United have their eyes on the 28-year-old Croatian for a rather long time and the club started a bid for the player from £36 million but Inter have not yet moved a muscle. There have also been reports that the Italian team has demanded the services of Anthony Martial in exchange for their star player – a wish that Mourinho has refused to fulfil. So as of now, the deal looks to be stuck in muddy waters.

Where have Manchester United shifted their focus to?

According to a report in the Calciomercato, Jose Mourinho and Manchester United have shown an interest in signing Emil Forsberg from RB Leipzig. The Swedish International has a €50 million buyout clause which Manchester United are ready to meet without any fuss.

Forsberg is a player who is quite similar to Ivan Perisic in terms of playing positions. Both the Croatian as well as the Swedish are primarily wingers for their respective teams. But Perisic can play a number of other roles, including that of a second striker. Forsberg’s statistics last season is also not too shallow when compared to that of Perisic. The Inter Milan player scored eleven goals in his 42 appearances last season while Forsberg scored 8 in the 31 appearances that he made for Leipzig.

The Football Fan Base view:

We don’t believe there is much importance in this transfer news and even the people at Claciomercato think the same. They feel that Manchester United are just bidding for Forsberg in order to put Inter Milan in a tight spot so that they are forced to lower their asking price for Perisic.

And above all, Leipzig are about to play in the Champions League next season and they are currently in no mood to let go of their star players. Just ask Jurgen Klopp about it.
