If the transfer grape vines is anything to go by then newly promoted side Newcastle United are eyeing a move for Arsenal’s Lucas Perez.

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez arrived at the shores of Newcastle in early 2016 and within the first year itself, the Spanish coach has been able to pull the Magpies back into the top division of English football. And now his biggest task for the next season will be to retain the top flight status and then hopefully build on it. But in order to do so, the 57-year-old has to bring in a lot of reinforcements. Newcastle have already brought in as much as five players and as per the latest reports, they are looking at Lucas Perez as their next possible target.

Lucas Perez arrived at Arsenal from Deportivo in 2016 but in these past 12 months, the player has found it really difficult to find a place in the first eleven. Perez has made only 21 appearances in the whole of last season and he recently went on to claim that he wishes to leave the Gooners during the summer. Lucas Perez said that he wanted to part with Arsenal in the January transfer window but Wenger blocked the deal by assuring Perez that he will get more game time. But unfortunately, that did not happen largely because Arsenal did not want to risk anything at the end of last season. As a result of this Perez has virtually been non-existent and feels cheated by Arsene Wenger.

While Perez has his heart set on returning back to Spain, Rafa Benitez believes that he can persuade the 28-year-old to stay back in England and join the Magpies.

The Football Fan Base view:

While Deportivo want to resign their attacking player but Newcastle are in a better position to pay Arsenal much more than the Spanish outfit which might easily swing the ball into Newcastle’s favour.

And if Perez decides to join Newcastle it is almost certain that he will be a regular first team player under Benitez – a thing that eluded him last season.
