In a bit of shocking news, Manchester City are targeting United youngster Marcus Rashford as a long-term option.

According to a report in the Don Balon, the City boss has already made initial contacts with the English International and sees him as an ideal substitute to the ageing Sergio Aguero. Guardiola’s plan at City involves building a team around youngsters and he feels that Rashford will be an ideal partner to Brazilian sensation Gabriel Jesus.

The United youth academy product has already made 17 appearances under Jose Mourinho this season – scoring 7 goals in the process. His performances have been so good that he has successfully kept Anthony Martial on the bench for most of the games. And so it seems highly unlikely that the 20-year-old will opt for a move to United’s arch-rivals simply because he is a guaranteed starter under the Mourinho regime.

Rashford broke into the scene three seasons back under Luis Van Gaal and since then he has become a regular for both United as well as England. Rashford celebrated his 20th birthday this week and within such a short span of time, the striker has already made 88 appearances for the Red Devils.

But that clearly has not stopped Pep Guardiola from knocking on the doors.
