Manchester City got off to a winning start to their Premier League campaign on Saturday against Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex.

The final score read 0-2 in favour of The Citizens but it could well have been much more than that.

Pep Guardiola’s side completely dominated in terms of chances created as well as possession. But they had to wait until the 70th minute to find the opener thanks to some organized defending by Chris Hughton’s men.

They double their advantage in 5 mins when Lewis Dunk put the ball in his own net while trying to stop Jesus from scoring.

All in all, it was a solid victory for City. Pep Guardiola was satisfied with the performance but believe that there was room for improvement. This due to the fact that Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero both missing crucial chances which could have given the scoreline a more fierce look.

“We have to learn to attack better,” Guardiola said. “The big teams have to handle all situations. I am satisfied, especially with the second half. We are here to win games. We won but it is just the first one.”

“We run a lot. You don’t see one player on my team not running. That is what I’m proud of the most.

“Last season we ran a lot but in the boxes, we were not good.”

“In the boxes, we were perfect [at Brighton]. We scored two goals, but we created more.”

“Hopefully in the future, we can be more accurate.”

The opening weekend sprung up quite a few surprises and Pep remains wary of the fact that every team can threaten here in England.

He said: “We spoke about that. It’s the Premier League. I lived that last season. Here every game is a battle.”

“The first game is always complicated. We saw this weekend what happened in many games.”

“From my experience in Barcelona too, especially against the newly promoted, it’s always difficult. And we did it.”

“We were stable. We controlled the game and the game was in our hands.”

“To start with three points away it’s always so important.”

The Spaniard will work on what needs to be before Manchester City take the field for their first home game of the season where Jesus and Aguero will have to be more clinical against Ronald Koeman’s reinvigorated Everton side on 21st August.

Everton have had a summer of huge spendings and surely they possess the ability to stun City if the Citizens do not capitalize on their chances created.
