Real Madrid are trying desperately to raise funds in order to make a bid for Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe. And due to that, Zinedine Zidane is ready to offload a bunch of players from the squad.

And the latest pick seems to be Croatian Mateo Kovacic. The 23-year-old joined the Los Blancos from Inter Milan back in 2013. But since then the midfielder hasn’t managed to make any kind of impressions on the first team. Kovacic has played 73 matches in the two seasons that he has been with the club, scoring just thrice.

So clearly Zidane sees absolutely no use of the player and is ready to offload him. And Spurs have been made aware of the situation that Kovacic is up for sale.

Tottenham had a pretty good campaign last season, finishing second in the Premier League table. They finished seven points behind champions Chelsea who ended the campaign with 93 points. And now Spurs manager Pochettino is eager to bring in reinforcements in order to bridge that gap next season. And Kovacic could be a perfect fit in the midfield.

But according to the Standard, the wage demands of the Croatian could be a potential roadblock for the London club. Tottenham have a very strict wage structure, but if they really wish to sign the 23-year-old they will have no other option but to bend their own rules.

The Football Fan Base view:

We assume that negotiating a deal with Real Madrid will not be a problem for Spurs. Especially when the Los Blancos are trying to gather money to fund the Mbappe transfer. But convincing Mateo Kovacic to accept lower wages might be a bit of an issue for the London club.

But considering the absurd amounts of money that have been flowing around, Spurs might as well break the bank for the Real Madrid player.
