Real Madrid blew away Leganes to reclaim their top spot in the LaLiga Santander. Zidane’s men defeated Leganes 4-2 to take their league points tally to 71 points. They are now two points clear of Barcelona but having played one game less.

Zidane made nine changes to his squad as he decided to give a much-deserved rest to some of his star players. As a result, Ronaldo, Bale and also Toni Kroos did not feature in the matchday squad. French defender Raphael Varane was also missing to a leg injury suffered in Sunday’s clash against Alaves.

Spanish international Alvaro Morata scored a hat-trick for Real on the night with James Rodriguez getting the other goal. It was Rodriguez who opened the scoring for Zidane’s men in the 15th minute. It was a simple tap in goal for James after the ball was served on a plate for him by Asensio.

Morata scored two quick-fire goals within the span of 5 minutes to give Real a comfortable lead of 3 goals. Morata’s first of the night was a beautiful header across the face of the goal to beat the keeper at the far post. Morata scored Real’s third in the 23rd minute of the match with a thumping volley to beat the goalkeeper.

Leganes responded with two quick-fire goals in the 32nd and 34th minute of the match. And both the teams went into halftime with the match finely balanced. But after just 3 minutes from the restart, Madrid went 4 goals up. The ball was headed into the Leganes goal from a corner and at first, it looked to be an own goal conceded by Mantovani. But later the goal was awarded to Real’s Alvaro Morata. With this goal Morata becomes the first Spanish player to score a hat-trick for Real Madrid since Raul way back in 2009.

Morata has reached a personal milestone:

Madrid will take on local rivals Atletico this weekend and Zidane will definitely call back all his first team player. But Varane will remain and absentee and he is also expected to miss the game against Bayern Munich.
