Former Manchester United defender and current football pundit Rio Ferdinand has marked out Chelsea as the team that carry England’s best hopes for this season’s Champions League.

Ferdinand who played more than 450 games for the Red Devils has claimed that Chelsea are a well-balanced side and they are the best hope for England in Europe’s top flight this year. He feels that every other team that is representing England in the Champions League has some sort of deficiency. Like Manchester United – who are weak defensively, but when it comes to Antonio Conte’s side they are very well balanced.

While speaking to BT Sport, the United legend said, ‘They are a very well balanced team,

‘The manager works hard and from what you hear from within the camp, he drills them daily on tactics and they have an understanding of each other as individuals and as a team.

‘In that sense, they are our best hope, as an English team.’

Rio Ferdinand added, ‘With the other teams, you can see deficiencies. Man United, defensively, could come unstuck against the top teams. Man City, the same.

‘Attacking, they’re both fantastic, but Chelsea are very well-rounded.’

Chelsea got off to a flying start as they swept aside Azerbaijani side Qarabag FK 6-0. But Manchester United too made a solid statement of intent in their group stage opener against FC Basel. The Red Devils won the match 3-0 courtesy of goals from Marouane Fellaini, Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford.

But do the Red fans agree with Rio Ferdinand’s comment? What do you feel?
