Manchester United have officially announced that they have reached an agreement with Everton over the transfer of Romelu Lukaku. While the full details of the deal are yet to be revealed but sources claim that United are paying £75 million for the Belgian’s services.

This is certainly a huge sum of money for any kind of player. But will Lukaku truly justify his price tag? Or will he join the list of the Verons and Forlans?

Lukaku’s statistics:

The former Everton player is coming to United on the back of a 25 goal season for the Toffees. The 24-year-old Belgian has scored 85 goals in the 120 games that he has played in the Premier League for West Brom and Everton. So clearly he is no new bee. The only thing that he needs to prove now is that he is capable of playing for a big team like Manchester United.

But that will be much easier said than done though. United have bought Lukaku as a direct replacement for the outgoing Zlatan Ibrahimovic. So the Belgian has the responsibility of filling some really big shoes.

Where does he fit in at United:

As Romelu Lukaku will be replacing Ibrahimovic in the starting line-up, he will directly be thrown into the striker’s role. But the Belgian is a totally different player as compared to Zlatan. While the big Swede would come down every now and then in order to assist the midfield, Lukaku will indulge in so such charity.

He is a player who likes to play in and around the opponent’s penalty box, rarely venturing into the midfield. But if United can deliver the right balls in the box, then Lukaku can surely reward his team with the goods.

The Football Fan Base view:

Apart from Lukaku, United also have both Rashford and Martial who are also strikers. But they will hopefully be deployed on either wing. And if these two can form a partnership with Lukaku then United will undoubtedly have one of the best attacking line-ups in the whole of the Premier League.

And another big advantage about the transfer is the fact that Lukaku is 24 years old. So United have potentially invested £75 million on a youngster. Lukaku easily has a good 10 years of top flight football left in him. And if he can dedicate all of that to United then he will surely turn into a legend at the club.
