One of the biggest stories from yesterday’s transfer deadline day was Ross Barkley’s refusal to join Chelsea as he opted to stay back at Everton.

The above statement might make one feel that Barkley’s love for Everton had rekindled and he wanted to give his Toffees career another chance. But we assure you that it was nothing of that sort.

Everton boss Ronald Koeman had revealed a few months back Barkley had refused to sign a new deal and was most probably on his way out of the club. Ever since that moment a couple of Premier League clubs had showed interest in signing him up. And as the transfer deadline moved closer, Chelsea emerged as the favourites to bag the player.

True to everyone’s assumption during the final hours of Thursday Chelsea and Everton had agreed on a £35 million fee for the transfer of Ross Barkley. And the English International was all set to have a medical at Cobham. But then something dramatic happened and Barkley left the medical as he was no longer in joining Chelsea.

And as per the reports doing the rounds in England, Barkley took such a decision because he had his heart set on a move to Tottenham Hotspur but Everton refused to negotiate with them. And Barkley was not willing to make the Toffees dictate terms.

The still Everton man is nursing a torn hamstring and he is now willing to wait till January in the hope of a better future. Reports also suggest that Chelsea have not yet given up hope and the Blues with return back in January with a new bid.

Till then all the Blues can do is wait.
