Tottenham Hotspur as of now have a right-back crisic after Kieran Trippier twisted his ankle against Juventus in a pre-season friendly. And the situation does not look good for the 26-year-old as he was seen walking around on crutches after the match. So now it is being reported that Mauricio Pochettino is out in the market to sign a new right-back and he has focused on Valencia’s Joao Cancelo.

Now the first thing that comes to mind is the fact that who is Joao Cancelo.

Cancelo hails from Portugal and comes from the elite Benfica Academy. He moved to Valencia in 2014 as part of a loan deal which was later made permanent by the Spanish outfit for a fee of around €15 million. Since then, Cancelo has gone on to make 90 appearances for the Oranges scoring 4 times.

Last season he was one of the rare positives in an otherwise disappointing season for Valencia. Cancelo also managed to pull out some great performances for his national side as he scored 3 goals in 4 appearances in 2016. But the thing about the Portuguese that will excite Pochettino the most will most definitely be the fact that he is a very attack-minded player. Going forward he harbours tremendous pace and is a real threat for defenders. Even though he is primarily a right back but can easily fit into the role of a wing-back in a 4-3-2-1 formation – a strategy preferred by Pochettino.

But Pochettino will have to sweat it out if he wants to acquire the services of Joao Cancelo because he will face some stiff competition from Juventus. The Italian Champions has been pursuing Cancelo for quite a long time now as they want him to be the long-time replacement for Dani Alves.

If Pochettino does manage to get Cancelo, then believe it not but it will be their first signing of the summer. Spurs have had one of the poorest transfer windows amongst the top six Premier League clubs as they are yet to close down a deal.
