The summer transfer window has come to a close and it is safe to say that Arsenal had yet another faulty three months.

While Wenger was able to hold on to Alexis Sanchez but he did lose Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Liverpool. And most importantly the Gunners boss failed to bring in any major signing other than Alexandre Lacazette.

And this is not the first time that Wenger has made a series of wrong decisions. We take a look at the top 5 mistakes of Arsene Wenger’s managerial career due to which the club had to suffer in the long run.

  1. Wenger’s ascended the manager’s position with one of the best teams in the EPL at his disposal. Players like Patrick Viera, Sol Campbell, and Thiery Henry lightened up their positions and had an excellent time on the pitch. However, despite an excellent 11, the squad was disbanded too soon. The players either aged out or were sold too quickly before the next batch of youngsters could develop the potential. Besides it’s been a decade since Arsenal could carry out an unbeaten streak leave aside winning the Premier League Title. The team of ‘Invincibles’ was the last batch which accomplished the feat of an unbeaten run and there is a high possibility that no other team will be able to reproduce that.

  1. Poor man management or lack of loyalty is what haunted Wenger again and again. It has been proved over and over again that Arsene Wenger could not tune into nature of modern footballers and the concept of loyalty. The players were given good contracts as well as ample first team action. However, the players were surrounded by agents providing them with the opportunity to make big bucks. In fact, the players too shortened their careers at the club and left for better opportunities. Due to these specific reasons, Arsenal saw their best players leave the club one after the other and the manager could not alter the situation.

  1. The football transfer market has highly evolved during the years and value of players have gone through the roof. Previously a Bergkamp or Henry was available for 10 million, but today even a Balotelli isn’t available for the number. However, Wenger still relies on his classic skill of pulling out a rabbit out of the hat where it seems impossible. One way or the other Arsenal remain incomplete and this has made even the promising players leave the club. Arsenal is currently a club with excellent an balance sheet but with an empty trophy cabinet.

  1. Wenger has always relied on his classic approach to the game sticking to his own philosophy. Adapting to modern football and changing dynamics of gameplay was never his forte. However, there is no more intelligence of Tony Adams or Dennis Bergkamp to create something out of nothing. Even the fire power is not there to rely upon for finding the net. Wenger never seems to read the opponents and decide his team. He would rather play to his instincts and leave the rest on the talent of his players. This might have worked a few decades back, but today it is nothing more than a shadow of the past.

  1. Wenger also has been argued to make strange signings which turned out to be a laughing stock. Remember when Julio Baptista arrived at Arsenal as a result of 12-month swap deal? He failed to live up to the standards and became an overall flop. The fans were awestruck when Wenger signed Denilson from Sao Paolo back in 2006. Lacking experience, as well as the presence on the pitch, Arsenal, were forced to loan the player back to his old club.
