In Part 1 we covered Arsenal and Chelsea along with Liverpool. We looked at what they needed to achieve as the deadline approaches. We continue that by looking at what the other 3 clubs in last years top 6, Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur need to do to strengthen their side further in this window.
4) Manchester City
City look like they have one of the most complete squads in the League. They have got defenders in, defensive cover, a hugely talented and vast array of midfielders, the prolific Sergio Aguero, and prodigy Gabriel Jesus. Despite that, Guardiola has time and again complained about his side not being clinical enough. They won’t suffer if they do not sign anyone but if they manage to see out the long saga involving Chilean Alexis Sanchez in a positive manner, then they will not only be contenders for the League but serious challengers in Europe. Also depending on Mangala’s future, it would not hurt them to draft in an experienced centre back like Jonny Evans.
5) Manchester United
United like their cross City rivals look like they have a complete squad. The arrival of Matic frees up Paul Pogba to cause damage up the field whereas Lukaku is a proven goal scorer. Mourinho is in his second season and we all are well versed with his successes in 2nd seasons at Clubs. The arrival of Zlatan for another year will make United a force to reckon with in Europe as well. Missing out on Ivan Perisic may not hurt them after all. However, if Mourinho does not plan to use Luke Shaw, he should probably go and find another left back as Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian do not offer as much fluidity as he would like.
6) Tottenham Hotspur
The Lillywhites have had a dismal start to the campaign and are yet to break the Wembley hoodoo. Kane’s misery of August also continued as Spurs have garnered just 4 points from 3 games. Davinson Sanchez arrives with a huge reputation and great promise. The youngster is a terrific signing but what Spurs need desperately is a striker to take the burden off Kane. Vincent Janssen is a promising player but he has been dismal in his time in England so far. Could he be relied upon in the unfortunate case that Kane gets injured? Especially with 4 competitions to indulge in. A right back and another attacking midfielder would also be welcome at the club as Kieran Trippier has only young Kyle Walker-Peters with him to cover the right back position whereas Georges-Kevin Nkoudou has not lit up the League so far.
All in all the London sides have their work cut out as head towards the deadline. Liverpool could settle the nerves with a defender and for the Manchester clubs, minimal work is to be done.
