Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are about to lock horns over the signature of Everton’s Ross Barkley during the new year.

According to a report, both Chelsea and Spurs are interested in signing up the player and will make a move for him during the January transfer window. Barkley has been linked to both these clubs on several occasions during the summer transfer window and the English International also went agonisingly close to signing a deal with the Stamford Bridge club. But then he had a chance of heart in the final moments, prompting him to return back to Merseyside.

But with Barkley’s contract to expire at the end of the season, Everton are keen to cash in on the player by selling him off during the January transfer window. Previous boss Ronald Koeman had put him up for sale without any compunction but new caretaker manager David Unsworth is singing on a totally different theme. He wants to mend bridges with the player and sort out the differences. But we have a feeling that the positivity from Unsworth will do very little in order to stop Barkley from leaving Everton.

Antonio Conte is a huge admirer of the player and wants to sign him at any cost. But it is highly doubtful that Barkley will move to Chelsea especially after what happened during the transfer deadline day this time around. So clearly Mauricio Pochettino will have the upper hand in this deal but one area where Chelsea can outclass their London rivals is the price tag.

Barkley becomes a free agent at the end of the season so clearly, Everton will be looking to squeeze out as much cash as possible from his transfer. And everyone knows pretty well that Spurs do not spend absurd amounts of money – no matter how good the player is.
