Tottenham Hotspur started their home campaign at Wembley with a defeat against arch-rivals Chelsea.

There were fears about Spurs’ finding their mojo at Wembley and they have not yet been quashed after Sunday’s defeat. Tottenham have now lost 7 of their last 9 fixtures at Wembley winning just once, a worrying stat for Mauricio Pochettino and his men as Spurs will play all of their home games at the national stadium this season.

Despite relentlessly putting pressure on the Chelsea defence, Spurs failed to be clinical and it cost them the match.

Here are Tottenham Hotspur’s players’ ratings vs Chelsea:

Hugo Lloris – 4/10

He could not have done anything in his power to save the free kick but made a mess of Alonso’s late shot which cost Tottenham the match.

Kieran Trippier – 5/10

Returning from injury and still looked rather rusty and not his usual busy self. Well managed by Alonso on Chelsea’s left.

Toby Alderweireld – 7/10

Strong and commanding display from the Belgian as he did not allow Chelsea’s front men to settle on the ball. Booked as well but overall a display well worth of the pay rise he has been angling for.

Jan Verthongen – 6/10

Incredibly lucky not to be sent off after an awful lunge on Victor Moses, especially after Cahill was sent off for a similar challenge last week for The Blues.

Ben Davies – 7/10

The Welsh defender has been performing excellently off late and trying to cement his place ahead of Rose’s return from injury. He was a threat growing forward and rarely troubled by Chelsea’s attackers as well.

Eric Dier – 6/10

The Englishman was also lucky not to be sent off. Looked solid but throughout the match, Kante got the better of him.

Victor Wanyama – 6/10

The Kenyan lacked sharpness throughout the game and he lost the ball for Chelsea’s winner. Did not offer anything special in terms of defence or attack.

Mousa Dembele – 8/10

Excellent display from the big Belgian. So strong and full of running throughout the game. Bombed forward through the middle of the park relentlessly and troubled Chelsea’s midfielders.

Christian Eriksen – 8/10

His incredible start to the season continues. Always caused Chelsea trouble with his extremely difficult to deal with set pieces. Provided the free kick which was turned into his own net by Michy Batshuayi.

Dele Alli – 6/10

Kept relatively quiet by Chelsea as compared to his remarkable standards. His clumsy foul on Luiz gave away the free kick which led to Alonso’s opener.

Harry Kane – 6/10

His “Curse of August” continues as he goes 12 games without a goal in the month of August. Led the line well and troubled Chelsea a lot without any reward. Hit the post for the second game running and will be looking to put this behind him.

Substitutes:

Heung-Min Son – 6/10

Tried to get involved in the game but Chelsea defended well to cut out his threat.

Moussa Sissoko –N/A

Did not threaten much as he replaced Davies on the left side.

Vincent Janssen- N/A

Came on for Trippier in the 90th minute and barely got a touch on the ball.
