Stoke take an early lead:
Mark Hughes’ team took a shock early lead in the match thanks to a Juan Mata own goal. The low cross took a wicked deflection from Mata’s feet and beat De Gea at the near post. But Stoke City came into the match with some excellent game planning. They were pressing the ball high up the pitch and chasing runners down. And for a brief period, they stopped United’s midfield from functioning and United were a bit taken aback from the whole scenario.
United’s attack wave:
It took a few moments for United to find their feet in the match but soon after that United started attacking the Stoke City goal. The United side built numerous attacks but someone the Stoke City defence did not falter. Most of the attacks by Manchester United would not find an end product and would fizzle out before it reached the final third. United did have a few good chances to level things up but most of them went begging. Mata missed a sitter, Lingard hit the woodwork and Rashford also missed a chance. In totality, it looked as if finally United’s unbeaten run will come to an end and Stoke City will get their much deserved three points.
He goes by the name, Wayne Rooney:
Everything was going Stoke City’s way until United got a penalty in the 94th minute just outside the Stoke penalty box. This was probably United’s last opportunity to grab a point. And on stepped Wayne Rooney to take the free kick and somehow he did not disappoint. He whipped in a devilish ball in and it found its way into the top corner after evading every player in the box. Whether it was a shot on goal or a cross, that only Rooney can tell. But it brought United back from a defeat and got them a point.
And by scoring the goal he surpassed Sir Bobby Charlton’s record for the highest number of goals for Manchester United. He surely picked the right moment and more importantly the right time to score the goal. But we are pretty sure that the hard-earned point rather than the record will excite Rooney much more.
