If things go accordingly then David De Gea might very well have played his last game for Manchester United. If all the news buzz is true then De Gea will be playing for Real Madrid from the next season.

And owing to such news flashes, the media grapevine has been ripe with the probable candidates who can replace De Gea as the new United No 1. But it looks as if Jose Mourinho might already have a first choice goalkeeper in his ranks.

Sergio Romero has for most parts of the season been subjected to second string Premier League matches and the Europa League. But as the season is coming to a close Romero has turned out to be one of the key men in Mourinho’s squad.

The United manager has made it very clear that Romero will start the finals of the Europa League against Ajax. Romero was also given a Premier League start against Southampton in midweek. And My God did he make a statement.

Romero was hands down the match of the match for Manchester United on the night. And to call it an eventful night for him would be a mere understatement. He started off his performance by making a great penalty save within the first five minutes of the match. And that really set the tone for the night.

In the second half also, Romero went on deny some great efforts from Southampton. And without him, United would have clearly lost the match.

Sergio Romero up until now was living under the shadows of perhaps one of the best keepers in the world. But now he has come out of the shadows and into the limelight. And with such a performance against Southampton, Romero is clearly a contender for United’s goalkeeping spot.

For a while now the media is trying to connect every top class goalkeeper with Manchester United. But it might very well be that Mourinho might put his faith in the hands of Sergio Romero.
