Manchester United scrapped through to a 2-1 victory against West Brom at the Hawthorns and the Red Devils once again struggled without Paul Pogba in midfield.

The French International was serving his final game of a three-match ban after the red card he picked up against Arsenal and in these past three matches, United’s performances have fallen considerably. Even though Mourinho’s men picked up six out of the available 9 points but the goals have evidently dried up. And perhaps the biggest setback was that embarrassing defeat at the hands of Manchester City.

Jamie Redknapp believes that without Paul Pogba Manchester United lose that creative spark in midfield which is essential to break down oppositions.

“I know last year he didn’t have the best year, but they miss him so much at the moment,” Redknapp said on Sky Sports.

“Controlling that midfield, it just gives them legs in there and a bit more creativity.

“At times with Herrera and Matic it’s very similar, no one really pops that ball around quickly.

“Manchester United have done that so often for many, many years, someone in midfield where the pace of pass is different.

“I think those are too similar.”

Pogba re-signed for Manchester United from Juventus at the beginning of last season but he did not have a very good campaign last time around. But this year the signing of Nemanja Matic from Chelsea seems to have eased a lot of pressure from Pogba who now is playing more freely.
