Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud is expected to Everton in January but his wife does not want the move – according to Sam Allardyce.

Giroud has fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal and he wants to move out of the club in order to keep his hopes of playing in the World Cup alive. The 31-year-old is being chased by both West Ham and Everton with the Toffees said to be the favourites to land the player.

Now though Everton boss Sam Allardyce has claimed that Giroud’s wife does not want to move north of Watford – meaning that the move to Everton might now happen after all.

Allardyce said(as reported by Goal), “I wouldn’t have thought [Giroud would move] as he refused to come last time,

“As far as I know he doesn’t want to move north of Watford, well his wife doesn’t want to anyway. It’s very important to the wives, believe you me. Normally they are the bosses.”

Everton lost their premier striker Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United during the summer and the club have failed to bring in a suitable replacement. Apart from Wayne Rooney most of their players have struggled infront of the goal and Allardyce’s biggest job now will be to bring in a top-class striker.

But with Olivier Giroud seemingly out of question who will Everton target now?
